Kay is an experienced attorney with diverse experience representing individual employees and employers. Prior to joining Ellis & Makus, Kay worked extensively with employees, employers and insurance companies across various industries. Kay is well versed in employment law issues involving workplace harassment, discrimination and retaliation. She represented individual employees in employment disputes. Kay also served as in-house counsel for a large insurance company, counseling and addressing employer concerns with workers’ compensation issues and other workplace matters.
Kay has experience in a variety of forums. She has appeared before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Labor Commissioner, the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board, the Employment Development Department, Superior Courts and Workers’ Compensation Appeals Boards. Through these experiences, she has gained considerable knowledge in many different facets affecting employees and employers.
Kay earned her bachelor’s degree in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. She received her Juris Doctorate from Golden Gate University School of Law, in San Francisco. While at Golden Gate University, she served as an Employment Law Research Assistant and as a Law Clinician at the Women’s Employment Rights Clinic on campus. Kay also interned as a Summer Law Clerk at Equal Rights Advocates, focusing on family leave laws and workplace discrimination.
